Background

Willem completed his Bachelor’s degree in Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam, with a minor in Internet Law at Leiden University, sparking his interest in privacy, AI and IT law. This passion led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Information Law at the Institute for Information Law (IVIR) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Taking a proactive approach to his education, he extended his master’s to gain hands-on experience, joining The Data Lawyers as an intern and later continuing as a paralegal.

In addition, Willem actively developed his skills through a board year with a Rotterdam student association, which provided lasting insights into team management and leadership. Currently, he is working on his thesis, which focuses on age assurance requirements in the context of the DSA and GDPR for Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs). Willem is set to graduate in January 2025 and is looking forward to launching his career in legal practice.

Willem joined The Data Lawyers in July 2024.
